THE Puppy Party

The purpose of a puppy party is to socialize pups at a young age with other dogs and people in hopes of staving off aggression or fear issues that erupt later in life.  This is particularly important in the more aggressive breeds.  Studies have shown that early socialization done in the proper environment tends to lessen the incidence of the dog becoming aggressive with others.  Other studies that speak to the developmental stages of dogs say that is important to do socializing before the pups are 4 months old since that is when all the crucial developing takes place.  And continue socialization until they are 9 months on up to 1.5 years, especially for guard breeds due to changes in social behavior at, and during, puberty.  This socializing should be with friendly adult dogs as well as pups, children, the elderly, differing surfaces (tile, gravel, dirt and pavement), changing environments like the groomer, the vet, busy shopping centers, the park, etc.

We are doing one here at My Best Friend Obedience on 5/18/08, 6/29/08, 7/27/08, 8/24/08, 9/21/08, 10/19/08, 11/16/08, and 12/14/08. All are held on Sunday afternoon at 4pm.  You will need to call the office or email to be on the list to attend and get directions. Future puppy parties are listed on our Event Calendar as they are scheduled.

Enrollees will need to sign a release form and bring their puppies current vaccine records (even if they are not complete), a copy of the last veterinary report, or something current giving your pup a clean bill of health, bring a pair of rarely used shoes to change into so you don't bring in any diseases on your feet.  And please bring a clean pup that has not been to a dog park or walked frequently in public areas, we want to keep risk of disease non-existent.  Donations for the host/hostess are welcome ($10-$15).  If your puppy has ANYTHING (cold, mange, fleas, worms, or if he might have something) he/she will not be welcome, sorry, maybe next time.  No puppies over 5.5 months old please!  No pups younger than 9 weeks. RSVP required.
